Patient Information

We love growing our family, so if you are a new patient to Aldergrove Dental, you will need to complete our medical and dental history form. This form provides us with information on your history, allowing us to make more informed dental decisions. Our office will send you the form before your first appointment. Please print, complete, and bring the form with you. This will ensure your time, the clinics, and our next patient's time is respected. Thank you, and please call our office if you have any questions.

Payment Options

Here at Aldergrove Dental, we want to make your life easy; we accept cash, cheque, money order, and most major credit cards. All payments must be made at the time of your appointment; however, if your dental care is extensive, financial arrangements can be made with our office. All fees for services are rendered the same under the British Columbia Dental Association Fee Guide

Dental Insurance

At Aldergrove Dental, we help submit your claims to a variety of dental insurance companies. We take care of all your necessary forms and paperwork to keep things simple for you. Every insurance company varies though, so we recommend bringing your policy information to us so we can ensure your dental needs will be covered. We will submit a pre-treatment estimate to your insurance company to find out how much coverage you have, before any dental work is started.

Dental Exam and Cleaning

Although conducted in the same appointment, a dental cleaning and a dental examination both make significant impacts on the analysis of your oral health. During your check-up appointment, Dr. Soong will examine your x-rays, check your mouth for signs of tooth decay and oral cancer, and check any existing restoration work to ensure it is still intact.

Dental cleaning, also referred to as prophylaxis, is performed by one of our dental hygienists, which is usually followed by the dental exam. During your cleaning, you can expect the hygienist to remove any plaque or tarter build up on your teeth and around your gums and floss and polish your teeth, leaving your mouth feeling fresh and clean.

Importance of Brushing and Flossing

Brushing and flossing are essential to daily oral hygiene care, which will enhance the health of your mouth, giving you the best results for your smile. Although we recommend coming to the dental office twice a year for a cleaning, we want to ensure our patients take proper care at home. Some of the main reasons why we recommend caring for your smile at home include:

Periodontal Disease Prevention | This specific disease can cause tooth loss, jawbone recession, and gum recession. This is caused by toxins that can be found in plaque which can lead to severe oral health issues.

Tooth Decay Prevention | Nobody wants to lose their teeth. Unfortunately, if there is tooth decay, there is a chance of tooth loss. Tooth decay occurs when acids found in the plaque of the mouth erodes the enamel that is located on the teeth. By brushing, it can help stop tooth decay from happening.

Stain Prevention | Stains can happen due to smoking, drinking coffee or tea, or from eating certain types of foods. Brushing and flossing your teeth helps prevent the possibility of discoloration and leaving permanent damage.

Halitosis Prevention | Halitosis means bad breath; something nobody wants. Bad breath can be caused by food being stuck in between teeth, which can be removed simply by brushing and flossing. This will leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean; exactly what dentist wants for their patient.

Some aids which can be used at home to help ensure that your oral health is being taken care of include: dental floss, interdental cleaners, mouth rinses, tongue cleaners, rubber tip stimulators, and toothbrushes. Remember to brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day, typically in the morning and before bed. This can ensure that your oral health is being taken care of and a smile is being worn everyday.

Dental Technology

Digital and Panoramic X-Rays
X-rays have become a useful piece of technology for dentists and dental assistants to become aware of oral health issues. X-rays use low levels of radiation to capture photographs of the interior gums and teeth, which can help dentists diagnose cavities, impacted teeth, cysts, bone loss, cancerous tumors, tooth decay, and so much more.

Di-ode Laser

We understand that nobody likes to hear the word surgery, which is why with advanced technology, there are instances where laser surgery is recommended in comparison to traditional surgery. With advancement in dentistry, a newer piece of technology that has been created is the di-ode laser, commonly referred to as the soft-tissue laser. This occurs through a stimulated emission of radiation with light, which is patient friendly due to the low heat and pain. The di-ode laser is commonly used to cut or shape oral tissue. The di-ode laser is commonly used to contour the gums, in periodontal therapy, uncovering non-erupted teeth, and removing stubborn tissue from the oral cavity.

Digital Scanner (iTero)

In 2007, the dental industry made another advancement with a new piece of technology called the iTero, Digital Scanner. This piece of technology takes highly accurate 3D scans of the mouth. The iTero digital scanner is commonly used to help dental professionals create accurate models for dental restorations which include implants, crowns, or veneers. It is also commonly used by orthodontics to identify problems that may occur during an orthodontic treatment.

CariVu

As time progresses, so does dentistry. The CariVu oral screening is a new approach to identifying cracks and tooth decay. When identifying cracks and tooth decay, it is common practice to use an x-ray to accurately find these conditions. However, the CariVu is a non-x-ray, compatible, and portable device that allows a dentist to detect these conditions. It uses trans-illumination technology in the form of a smaller device, which is radiation free for patients.

Air-flirtation (Surgery Clean Air)

We understand that staying inside can cause the air to become dense. As more people filter through an area, it is common that the air quality may lack in cleanliness. Due to the constant change in temperature, a building may hold onto bacteria, mold, or illnesses. However, at Aldergrove Dental we have an air-filtration system, commonly known as surgically clean air. It is an air cleaning process that has a six-step filtration that helps remove any harmful bacteria in the surrounding area. Our patient's health is of the utmost importance to us, which is why we have implemented this system in our office.
